When should we change the tyres on our car? | ТСАКИ ООД

When should we change the tyres on our car?

Tyres are an important component of your car, ensuring optimum performance, safety and fuel efficiency. However, they don't last forever and it's essential to know when to replace them. Checking your tires regularly and understanding the signs of wear can help you determine the right time to replace them. Tsaki will discuss some key factors that indicate when you should replace your vehicle's tires, ensuring your safety and maintaining perfect performance on the road.

How do you know when to change your vehicle's tires?

Tread depth and wear indicators

The tread depth of your tyres plays a vital role in providing grip on the road. Most countries have minimum legal requirements for tread depth. You can use a tread depth gauge or the built-in wear indicators to measure tread depth. If the tread depth falls below the legal limit or if the wear indicators are visible, it's time to change your tyres. Worn tyres impair the vehicle's handling and the risk of hydroplaning.

Tyre age

Tires deteriorate over time, even if they have sufficient tread depth. Rubber compounds harden and lose their flexibility, affecting grip and overall performance. As a general rule, consider replacing your tires if they are older than six years, regardless of tread depth. Check the sidewalls for the date of manufacture, represented by a four-digit code. The first two digits indicate the week and the last two the year of manufacture.

Visible damage or cracks

Regularly inspect your tires for visible damage such as cuts, bulges or cracks. These problems can disrupt the overall structure of the tyre and increase the risk of a puncture. If you notice significant damage, we recommend replacing the tire immediately. In addition, watch for damage to the sidewall caused by curbs or impacts, as this can weaken the tire structure and lead to potential failure.

Seasonal considerations

In most regions it is common to switch to seasonal tyres for optimum performance and safety. Winter tires provide better traction on icy or snowy roads, while summer or all-season tires are designed for warmer conditions. Pay attention to the tread depth and condition of your seasonal tires, and replace them if they no longer meet the necessary requirements. Using the right tyres for each season improves the handling of your vehicle and increases safety.

Regularly monitoring the condition of your vehicle's tires is essential for safe and efficient driving. Tread depth, wear indicators, tire age, visible damage and uneven wear are key factors to consider when determining if it's time to replace tires.
