Owners of diesel cars with SCR systems know what AdBlue is. This is a reagent for creating a more environmentally friendly exhaust gas - its content of harmful substances should not exceed the norms according to European environmental standards. This is where the notion of it ends for many. But it's important to know what you're putting in your car, what properties the composition has and how to refuel it. Tsaki experts will give you answers to all your questions.
SCR - Selective Catalytic Reduction - aims to reduce nitrogen oxide in diesel exhaust. For this purpose, a liquid called AdBlue is used. AdBlue is an aqueous solution of urea, which is used in granular form in agriculture as a fertiliser. The liquid form used in vehicles consists of 32.5% urea and 67.5% demineralised water.
Like any working fluid, AdBlue is consumed by the vehicle as it travels a certain distance. For stable operation of the SCR system, timely refuelling is necessary. On average, the consumption of urea is 4 - 6% of the fuel consumed by the engine. For example, for a tractor, the consumption of the composition will be 2 liters per 100 km, which means that a 100-liter tank will be enough for about 5000 km.
Since the reagent, due to its properties, is picky about the conditions of transportation and storage, some important rules must be observed. Due to the strict purity requirements of the formulation, the transfer of urea into an intermediate container should be avoided. Loading should not be carried out with equipment not designed for this purpose. The materials from which it is made can cause a chemical reaction - the urea will lose its properties.
Only specialized AdBlue filling equipment should be used. In it, all components - modules, hoses, pumps - are made of materials acceptable for contact with urea (mainly stainless steel and some types of plastic based on pure polyethylene or polypropylene). As a rule, AdBlue refuelling services are provided by specialised organisations.
Without AdBlue, most modern diesel cars will simply refuse to start or run in a low power mode called "crash mode". It is therefore recommended that when using such an engine, the AdBlue level is monitored and topped up if necessary.
The car will itself notify you of the need to add urea via the on-board computer, thus telling you that the level of this fluid is low and needs to be topped up. Due to the rather rigid attitude of car manufacturers to the environmental friendliness of the exhaust of diesel-fuelled cars, the first warnings to top up the fluid will appear a few thousand miles before the required top-up. That way, you'll have plenty of time to remember to buy more of that product before the car finally uses up all the remaining fluid
